Hi everyone,   I was asked to start to update this blog so that our two followers could see where we've been. So here we go.  We're already 21 days into it so I'll just do a quick catchup of where we've been so far.  Day 1: Kingston to Port Ludlow We just anchored there for a night. Been there many times.    Day 2 & 3: Port Ludlow to Point Hudson Marina in Port Townsend, WA . Day 4 & 5: Pt. Hudson to James Island in the San Juan Island, WA .   Day 6: James Island to Deer Harbor, Orcas Island, WA .  No pictures to show but we had a lovely time. We like the Deer Harbor Marina.    Day 7: Deer Harbor to Prevost Harbor, Stuart Island, WA .  No pictures, but great spot to be for an early crossing the next morning into Canada!    Day 8 & 9: Prevost Harbor to Poets Cove Marina, Bedwell Harbor, South Pender Island, B.C .  No pictures. Do you like using an old-school paper logbook? So do we!  But I couldn't find one that had just the right amount of information. Most of the marine store generic logbooks are too sparse. They are mostly just blank journals, or have only the most basic information.  The professional mariners logbooks have entirely too much information that we pleasure cruiser's just don't need.  Our logbook is the Goldilocks version! So I'll be making a few posts on what to do while onboard Daedalus just in case you come cruising with us.  One of the fist things many people new to boating ask is "How do you use the bathroom?" After explaining that it's called "the head", we then walk them through it. Most people have never used a marine head. Daedalus has two heads. One is a manual-pump head and the other is electric. We have separate instructions for both also posted right in front of you as you, um, sit.  If you come aboard we'll show you in person how to use them. But here is the reading material if you wish to study!      

 So those of you who know us can easily remember our Seattle home. We bought it from the family and lived there happily for eight years.  Then the pandemic hit in March 2020. We taught remotely for the rest of that school year. It was... okay.  But our initial hopes of returning to a normal school year for the 2020/2021 year were crushed by the massive onslaught of the virus, aided and abetted by all the non-vaxxers out there who happily helped spread and extend the severity of it. We were looking at a full year of teaching remotely.  We also saw the explosion in the Seattle housing prices. We saw riots in Seattle, we also saw loads of potholes in Seattle.  I had become burned out teaching and very much wanted to retire. In July 2020 I became eligible to retire but was only 55. If I retired now we'd be in some pretty serious financial straits.  In mid-August 2020, we were sitting on our deck having a cocktail and Shan said, "Well here's a crazy idea... Let'...

We started this blog to log all our adventures aboard our 2005 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 49, s/v Daedalus!  To our friends and family, we hope you can join us. As in, we literally hope you can join us... on the boat... not just on this blog. Although following along with this blog is fine too.  Fair seas! S&S
